A Christian in a crisis world
A global crisis has erupted afflicting every facet of humanity, be it the human-race, civilization, or something more cataclysmic such as a meteorite bringing forth the destruction of the planet, or a volcanic eruption that exterminates the population. A global crisis of horrific magnitudes that is not isolated to a single entity or location on the planet
Global warming, environmental degradation, massive loss of species, dwindling natural resources, difficulties in switching to sustainable forms of energy rapidly increasing population and wide spread poverty, hunger and disease. Human suffering is wide spread in third world countries, while an increasing subjective malaise affects many people in more technologically developed nations. There is more insecurity and uncertainty on theplanet, especially with reference to the future; these cataclysmic phenomenon will increase more and more as the coming of Jesus Christ draws nearer. These are going from bad to worse, things will never get better until the second coming of Christ. 1 John 5:19 “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness”.
God allowing crisis in the world is a two edged sword - to strengthen the believers and to warn the unbelievers to repent and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior or be eternally doomed in hell fire. Below are some of the reasons
1. The word is temporal – God expect Christians to know that here on earth is not permanent and as such do not want the redeemed to be the tempted into believing that when you are comfortable you are in Heaven and whenever there is crisis you are in hell. Heb 11:13-16 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on earth. 14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. 15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. 16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly; wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
2. The Devil is the god of the world – light and darkness can never agree, in like manner, those serving God and those serving the Devil can never agree, be not deceived there is no compromise. 2 Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2 Cor 6:14-16 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
3. God wants us to be heavenly conscious – the temptation to lose focus as Christians is very high, if we think much of heaven and keep our eye upon it, if we quicken ourselves with the hopes of it and keep ourselves in awe with the fear of falling short of it, no matter the crisis, we shall remain heavenly minded. But, if your heart be set upon the earth and its deceitfulness, it will entrap into worldliness and sever us from heaven. Luke 12:34 “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”.
4. God wants us to know that the world is empty – the world is filled with emptiness. Eccl 1:2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity Job 1:21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. 1 Peter 1:24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away.
5. Crisis is Satan’s tool to recruit men for hell – many people especially Christians lay down their guards during crisis and become irrational, irritate, bitter, angry, revengeful and even kill in retaliation, these are ploy of the Devil to make people sin and go to hell, anyone that takes these baits of Satan is doomed for hell fire, we must resist the Devil at the hour of crisis and never lose our faith in Christ Jesus. “Heb 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; 1 Peter 5:8-9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 1 Peter 4:12-13 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings: that, when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
6. Crisis for Christians has been predicted by Christ – upon the ascension of Christ, He comforted His disciples that in the world there will be crisis for which the disciples and all who will receive Jesus Christ as Lord and savior will surely encounter. Every of the disciples (Apostles) died as martyrs joyfully so crisis should never deter us from Christ. John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
7. Crises are prophetic signs that Christ is coming very soon – Though many have grown weary and even out-rightly doubt whether Christ will ever return to rapture the Church, yet every event that Jesus prophesied many centuries ago that will precede His coming are today evidently manifested which cannot be doubted or contested, we must all fear and be ready for Christ’s return. Jesus is surely coming soon, will you be among the raptured Christians when Jesus comes again? Matt 24:4-11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Make your way right with God; repent from your sins and backsliding now. Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
